PASALB 50th anniversary!
In 1976 (yes a time before digital comms) an advert in the Evening Standard invited any other Plymouth Argyle fans living in London to meet in a pub.
They did, in numbers -and PASALB (the Argyle “London branch” was born.
50 years later the Association thrives- and we celebrated our anniversary in some style, hiring Bromley FC for an exhibition football match between PASALF FC and Exeter Exiles (winning 7-0) before a celebratory dinner with special guests Argyle legends Andy “Jock” Morrison and Steve Castle.
The association thanks them, and our organisers (Lee,Ginny, Mark and James) for a great event, and we look forward to celebrating at our “diamond” anniversary in 10 years!

FIFTY YEARS!! Congratulations PASALB , 1976 to 2026 (and beyond!)
1976-then, like now, it was HOT (drought)
Then, like now, a Labour government changing Prime Minister change (Harold Wilson to James Callaghan)
In Sport? Then like now, FA Cup final was 1-0 (but maybe people cared mor back then?)
1976 Southampton beat Man U in FA Cup final -2026 chelski v Man City (yawn)
(In 1976 Argyle Lost 4-1 in 3rd round of the cup, better than this years 2-0 capitulation to Wycombe in the 1sr round, a season low point)
!976 Liverpool won the league- this year Arsenal
1976 in the European Championships Czech Republic beat West germany 5-3 on pens in yugoslavia
(Whereas in 2026 Argentina having beaten England in the semis lost to Spain despite their cheating)
British sporting greats of ‘76- John Curry olmpic gold medal figure skating, James Hunt won the grand prix, and Sue Barker won Wimbledon! In 2026….well, it isnt over yet !)
Cost of living in 1976
Football ticket 70p, pint of milk 9p, Pint of beer 30p, litre of Petrol 17p….and the average House price was £12,700!
ARGYLE IN 1976
Following Promotion in ‘75, they finished a disappointing 16th in 75-76 season, despite the Rafferty/Mariner combo under manager Tony Waiters.
PASALB members enjoyed games at charlton, orient, luton, millwall, oxford, chelsea (2-2)……………and an advert in the Evening Standard from one Argyle fan was the genesis of this amazing association.
Much has changed in 50 years….but one thing has remained the same -Argyle fans living in London getting together to support PAFC. #GreenArmy #LondonGreens #PASALB
